Designing a house is a huge project. You’re investing a lot of time and money, into finding the perfect pieces for the puzzle that is your home. Your home is your comfort zone, it’s where you go to get away from the world and find solace. So you want it to excite you, calm you, and all around make you happy when you enter your home.
The ideal design is to be both timeless and trendy. But you don’t want all of your major appliances and furniture to be too trendy. This can lead to your design being out of fashion within the next few years.
Unless you can allocate the funds to redesign your home every five years or so, you might want to consider some timeless pieces that are both exciting, and won’t go out of fashion with every new trend.
Let’s look at some ways you can create the perfect design for your perfect home.
STAY TIMELESS WHEN IT COMES TO YOUR MAJOR APPLIANCES
You need to think about your sofa’s and some of the other, more expensive items in your home. These aren’t the appliances that you want to replace every few years. It’s time-consuming, hard, and pricey.
Instead, you should consider choosing a nice modern, but neutral-colored sofa. If you want to express more of yourself and your personality, then you can add some hot pink throw pillows or a tie-dye carpet.
Then if you feel that these items are out of style within a couple of years, they are much easier to replace than sofas.
CONTRAST MODERN ITEMS WITH VINTAGE
Adding some vintage items to the mix always attracts the eye. You might have modern flooring and wallpaper in your dining room, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t throw in a vintage table, or light-fixtures, to create a timeless and trendy vibe.
Again, these are items that are easily replaceable and can be moved around without too much effort. This can ease your mind when you’re trying out different things that you aren’t an expert in.
If you like it, great, if you don’t, move it around.
THNK ABOUT FOCAL POINTS IN ALL DIFFERENT ROOMS
Designing a home is all about layers. The whole house doesn’t have to be trendy, it’s about finding spots that work and blending them in with different elements. So find a focal point in all of the different rooms that you’re designing, and use those areas to add some flavor.
Keep the wallpapers fairly neutral but add a trendy vase or framed pictures that are both eye-catching and display your personality. These focal points will stand out, and lighten up your room without being too much of a hassle to change if need be.
LASTLY, CHOOSE ITEMS THAT EXCITE YOU
The only person who is going to know if an item works in a specific section of your house is you. Whether something is trendy or it’s not, every home has a different atmosphere that suits certain items.
If you find these items, and they look great, use them. Have fun with it, and if you need help, there are plenty of designers out there who would be happy to help turn your dream into reality.
