When I was diagnosed with cancer, it was difficult to avoid the troubling thoughts that my life was over. As I endured 7-hour chemo sessions, radiation and endless injections, my top priority became quality time with my loved ones. Spending time with my wife and my newborn daughter. Through it all, I promised myself that once I was healthy, I would make an impact on the world of Cancer.
It has been a long road to get back to where I was pre-diagnosis. December 13th, 2020 will mark my two-year anniversary of being in remission. To celebrate that milestone, which 40% of cancer patients never achieve, I have committed to making real change in the life of children diagnosed with Leukemia. I am training for the 2021 Race Across America, a 3.000-mile bicycle relay race from Oceanside, California to Annapolis, Maryland. We have assembled an eight-man team of riders from the US and UK who have battled cancer or have been profoundly impacted by disease. Together, we will ride non-stop, 24/7, from coast to coast, to prove that cancer has only fueled our fire to achieve more and to improve the life of kids diagnosed with Leukemia.
Together, we will raise more than $500,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Childhood program. The initiative will help develop new treatment protocols that are geared to specifically treat children with Leukemia. Kids are surviving years of treatments to find out that they will endure cognitive issues and heart problems for the rest of their lives. The thought of my daughter being subjected to the torturous treatments I endured is heartbreaking but to then be saddled with long term side effects is unacceptable.
No matter who you are, where you live, or what you do, you or someone else in your life may receive a cancer diagnosis. One in three Americans will die from Cancer. it has never been more important to fund the lifesaving organizations devoted to its research and treatment.
When you donate to our team’s mission, you help us transform the world. We are committed to training as hard as necessary to winning the race, but to reach our real goal we need your help.
We need your donation, it will inspire us to push harder and train longer. Please give what you can at gearupforcancer.com and follow us on Instagram @raam21ride.
